Was doing extraction yesterday and came upon this record of Walter.Thought you might like to see it. I am always amazed at the thrill I get when I find something of our family. Sad to see that he only lived a few days more than a year from the date he was enlisted. I wonder if he had any idea that he would not come home?

I always remember the last time I saw him when he said to my mom, " if you see a soldier on the road, stop and pick him up". He was saying good bye to us as he was headed back to his base on foot when car trouble let us down. When you're young, you expect to live. But when your young and in war, perhaps not.
