This is my dad just home from his time in the coal mine in Kennelworth. About 1931.

Hi Starich Cousins, I thought that it would be great to start a Starich/Smolich Blog. David said that among the five surviving cousins that we must have a treasure of old photos to share and stories to tell. By posting them here we can enjoy the family spirit and save them for posterity. Many of our families have grown so big and diverse that the Starich/Smolich remembrances might get lost in the shuffle. So I hope that you agree and will join in and share.

I just enlarged this photo and took a good look at his face. He looks so tired and weary. I'm sure he must have put in long, hard days in the mine at that time. He was a hard worker and a very interesting guy. He had a great sense of humor and often found my mom to be the source of it. She could innocently do or say something that would create a response from him that made us all laugh. Those were the good times that I am grateful for. He loved and respected her very much.
I admire those men who worked so hard and gave so much working in the coal mines. Grandpa Dan and my dad ('Bud Fausett) were two of them.
Love this picture, it shows just how hard they worked and how tired they were, which also proves how much they loved their families.
Thanks for sharing.
